Enjoy my project ‘Manchu Ladies’, in collaboration with the John Thomson exhibition. Following Thomson’s journey through China specifically the Manchu Ladies he met on his travels. Design development has taken inspiration from: ancient Chinese painting styles seen typically as scrolls, as well as weavers such as Wallace and Sewell - famous for their interior designs of a contemporary modern style - which have a timeless quality to them. Printed Textile company Timorous Beasties, notorious for their luxurious bold print designs which are elaborate and rich in colour. This project faced many challenges which ultimately led to the completion and success I have reached. From research to design development each step has played an important role. Without using even just one of these my project would have turned out very differently. My finals include an elaborate toile de jouy fitting as either curtains or a statement wall. Placed alongside my final woven design as a cushion cover each final sits gracefully against one another. From following the colour trends of 2023 and beyond I hope for my designs to fit in with any living space from now into the far future.
